Christmas-in-Singapore

Dreaming of a traditional Christmas roast? Thinking of indulging in mince pies and mulled wine whilst listening to Christmas carols surrounded by twinkling lights? If like me, you are looking for something that feels a bit more like home, here are a few simple steps to ensure you’re celebrating a proper Christmas at home

Get a real Christmas tree

If you’re a Christmas traditionalist, you’ll want to get a real tree. My favourite pick for fresh Christmas trees is at Thomson Nurseries. Located just parallel to Thompson Road, the closest MRT is Caldecott and the centres are located between Andrew Road and Olive Road, near the Polo Club. Head over and have a nose around for the best deal. They also have Christmas flowers and decorations for a very reasonable price.

Put your Christmas apparel on

Ok, 30 degrees might be just slightly too warm and hot for a traditional Christmas reindeer knitted sweater or knee-high woolen socks. But there are some Christmassy alternatives that will definitely bring out the holiday spirit for you. Wear it, snap a photo in it and send it to your loved ones back home! Trust me, they’ll love it. You can even go one step further and suit up!

Send “real” Christmas cards

Forget Facebook, emails, and Whatsapp this Christmas. This season, make an effort to send handwritten cards to your loved ones. This will not only make their Christmas day, but will also make you feel closer to them. Be original and add a twist to your cards, with local designs and catchphrases.

Put on the ultimate Christmas playlist

There is nothing better to create the Christmas mood than a selection of good ol’ Christmas tunes. Thanks to Spotify, you can choose from hundreds of playlists created by users. Classics like “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey, “Let it Snow” by Ella Fitzgerald, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Frank Sinatra will never let you down… but maybe you’ll want to avoid “Coming Home For Christmas”.

Christmas Gift

You can not imagine Christmas without giving and taking gifts from your friends and relatives. There are many budget Christmas hamper and gift available in the market that you can choose for your guests.

Organise a cozy gathering with friends

Surround yourself with your closest friends for a small gathering, sharing food, good conversation, and laughter. Set up a table for a sit-down dinner or throw some cushions around the coffee table. Make it as cozy as you can by adding sandalwood or pine candles, twinkling lights and shades of burgundy and green. Make it a pot-luck and let everyone bring their favourite Christmas dishes from all around the world.

Make your own drinks

No matter how cold or hot the weather, there is no Christmas Day without drinks and juice. But here’s a good tip, the tasty drinks can be pretty costly to buy, so there’s no need to spend a load of cash because you can make your own! Here is a lovely video on how to do just that, and if it gets too hot, then just turn on the aircon!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!
