The 95th Academy Awards, which recognize outstanding achievements in the film industry for the year 2023, were held by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023, and were televised by ABC and produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the show’s hosts.
The big winner of the night was the comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All at Once, which follows a Chinese-American woman’s journey through parallel universes, taking home a total of 11 awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
India also celebrated a significant win at the Oscars, as the song Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s period epic RRR won Best Original Song, and the documentary The Elephant Whisperers, which follows a group of women protecting elephants in Assam, won Best Documentary (Short Subject).
Other notable winners of the night included All Quiet on the Western Front, a German adaptation of the classic anti-war novel, which won four awards, including Best International Feature Film and Best Cinematography. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever took home the award for Best Costume Design for its Afrofuturistic designs, while Avatar: The Way of Water won Best Visual Effects for its stunning underwater scenes.
