Most people want that when their loved one passes away, they don’t harm the body. They want to do a funeral as it is without any cuts, bleeding, or surgery. The donor’s organs are retrieved surgically by doctors.
Funeral and Organ Life
When somebody dies, most people burn the dead body or put it in a grave (according to their religion and social rituals). Most people want to do the funeral on the same day their loved one dies. So they do not bring the dead body for organ donation to complete the funeral on the same day.
The medical team needs to retrieve donor organs as soon as possible. For example, the heart and lungs last only 4-6 hours. The liver lasts 6–12 hours. The kidneys last up to 30 hours. The intestine lasts 6 hours. The pancreas lasts 6 hours.
Religions against organ donation
Many people say that organ donation is against their religion or that their religion does not allow them to donate organs after death. There is no specific religious law that prohibits organ donation. There are different views among religious believers. Some people believe in life after death. The ongoing rebirth could reflect well on organ donation and transplantation. Others view organ donation as the body remaining sacred even after people’s deaths and should not be harmed.
Lack of Awareness
Most people in the world don’t think about organ donation. But they should donate organs to save other’s lives. People get afraid when they think about organ donation and transplants. They even don’t know where they can donate organs after death.
Mistrust
People do not believe in hospitals, doctors, or the organ allocation system. There is a belief there is a black market for organs and deservingness issues. How can they make sure that if they donate an organ, it will reach the desired person?
Organ donation matters are always controversial. It should be mandatory for us. Organ donations should be encouraged to save many lives each year. Don’t think about whether it is ethical or unethical; an organ can give a person a person a new life.
