Whether your body needs fuelling up before heading off to the gym, or you’re simply trying to increase your protein intake, high-protein snacks are the easiest and tastiest ways to go about your day.

Protein is essential for building, repairing and maintaining your muscle tissue. The filaments, made up of amino acids, are linked together to build more muscle, increase your energy levels and ensure your body can repair itself if and when being injured. As you can see, it’s fairly important; however, unfortunately, it is not something that is stored in your body.

High Protein Snack Ideas

To ensure that you maintain your protein intake, you have to be eating foods that contain protein. If you find it hard to plan meals or get bored with the same meal every day, we’re here to provide you with 7 snack ideas which are all high in protein. These are great if you’re constantly on the move and get a bit peckish!

  1. Peanut butter and apple

If you find yourself craving a lot of sweet foods (which often happens when you lack protein) then this is a great alternative. Apples, or even celery sticks, work so well with nut butter and still provide that sweet taste. Better yet, they are so much healthier for you than a bar of chocolate or a packet of crisps!

  1. Mixed nuts

Mixed nuts are a great snack to have around the house or in the office. Not only are they high in protein, but they are also so easy to store and carry around with you for any sudden cravings. If you like sugary snacks, buy nuts mixed in with dried fruit to add that extra sweetness.

  1. Protein Shakes

While getting your protein from actual food sources is far better, we understand that it can be hard to have a full-on meal when you’re out and about. Protein shakes come in a variety of flavours and is a great way to boost your protein intake when you haven’t got much time. If you need a quick boost before the gym, then a protein shake is your way forward.

  1. Cheesy Nachos

Just because you’re trying to be healthy, doesn’t mean you have to stop eating all those delicious snacks! Eatlean offers a range of cheeses which are all low in calories and high in protein compared to regular cheeses. You deserve a treat every now and then and swapping your cheese for Eatlean’s cheese is hardly cheating. Make some nachos with Eat lean cheese and still get all the tastiness without any of the guilt!

  1. Greek Yoghurt and Granola

This is a great breakfast alternative or a midday snack. Greek yogurt contains a lot of protein and granola will add that extra crunch and sweetness to the snack. It’s also incredibly filling, so you’re unlikely to feel the need to snack as the day goes on.

  1. Veggies and hummus

Hummus, containing chickpeas, is high in protein and eating that with some delicious veggies makes for a filling and healthy snack. Better yet, it’s easy to carry around or even buy from the shop (if you’re not good at planning in advance!).

If you find that get bored of meals very quickly, or just don’t have the time to eat, then it’s a good idea to start having some snacks ready for when you suddenly do find yourself craving foods. It will also ensure that you don’t just pick something else up which is less healthy because you didn’t prepare any snacks. Fortunately, there are plenty of snack ideas and recipes to get you started, including these 6!
