Keep Things Safe in Home

Staying safe when you are at home is crucial no matter how safe you think you are. Even if you don’t have children, it is still important to keep your valuables locked up and out of sight. When you are out and about, it is easy to forget about your things when you’re preoccupied with looking around and seeing what’s going on. But while you should definitely keep your things safe while you are out, you should also take the same care to protect your keys and valuables when you’re home.

Here are the essential tips to keep your things safe

Don’t keep your valuables in your bag

This one is pretty self-explanatory. While it is definitely a good idea to keep your credit cards, money, and identification buried in a safe place, it’s also important to know when you should keep your actual valuables out of sight and out of mind. Your bag, backpack, or purse is probably not the best place to keep your cash, jewelry, and other valuable items. Keep in mind that no one ever said being a responsible parent meant having to keep your wallet in your purse at all times. If you do have to leave your wallet somewhere, remember to always keep it away from prying eyes.

Lock up your valuables

If you put your house up for rent, you’d be surprised how often people forget to secure their belongings. It happens, but it’s definitely worth the reminder! If you keep your valuables in a safe place, you don’t have to worry about them getting lost or stolen. However, if you don’t lock up your valuables, someone will definitely take advantage of this. The second you see this happening, make sure to write down the time, date, and location. Then, take that information and secure it in a safe place out of reach of mischievous kids. This includes your cash, credit cards, and checkbooks. Of course, you should also securely store your debit or credit card numbers in a safe place as well.

Don’t keep large, heavy things in the same room

This one’s pretty important! If you keep your large, heavy things in the same room as your small, light things, the entire house will feel much heavier. This is definitely not a good omen if you’re trying to sell the house. If you have kids, it’s probably a good idea to keep them out of your bedroom at all times. However, if you’re just not feeling like being in the same room as another adult, you should probably put your things in a small, safe space. This could be a closet, the kitchen, or the backyard. When you have a small space to put your valuables, you have much more control over what goes in there. You also have a much better chance of it not getting out of control and damaging your things.

Take care of small, light things before you leave home

If you LOOSELY have things like stuffed animals, toys, and books with you wherever you go, you’re bound to forget about them at some point. It’s much better to leave these things at home and take care of them when you get there rather than take them with you. If you’re like most people, you have an emergency bag in your car, a handbag, briefcase, or some other bag you always feel like taking with you but never actually use. This bag has all the things you don’t want to lose but can’t bring yourself to throw away. The best way is to start getting organized and throwing out those old, crumpled-up papers and receipts. You’ll be so glad you did!
