Maintenance Checklist of HVAC Systems

HVAC Preventive maintenance checklist is key to keeping your HVAC system in good working order. A preventive maintenance checklist can help you identify and address issues before they become big problems.

Keeping your home’s heating and cooling system in good working order is essential for your comfort and for preventing potential damage. Here are a few key things to keep an eye on:

1. Check the filters

Check the filters. When it comes to keeping your HVAC unit running smoothly, it’s essential to ensure that your filters are replaced regularly. Clean filters are very essential for the proper running of the machine. Filters help remove dirt, dust, and other particles from the air entering your system. If they’re not replaced regularly, the build-up can cause significant damage to the components inside your HVAC unit.

2. Check the coils

Ensure that the coils on your heat pump are adequately maintained by checking for cracks or corrosion and replacing them as needed. Coils on standard furnaces should be replaced every 10-12 years, while those on heat pumps should be replaced every 7-10 years. Always use new coils when replacing them as new coils are more efficient than the old ones.

3. Check air ducts and registers

Air ducts connect rooms in your home, so it’s essential to ensure they’re free of obstructions and adequately sealed at both ends. In addition, check all registers – including those in the attic – to ensure they’re clear of debris and functioning correctly.

4. Check the fan motors

If you notice that one or more fan motors aren’t spinning as they should, take action immediately! A dead fan can cause significant problems with airflow in your home, leading to overheating and possible damage to components inside your HVAC system. If you found any damage in your HVAC system, you should consider HVAC repair. There are many repair centers where you can repair your brand-new HVAC system.

5. Check the thermostat

Ensure that your thermostat is appropriately adjusted and works with your HVAC unit as intended. Over- or under-heating can cause severe damage to your system, so it’s essential to check this part of your maintenance regularly.

6. Check the seals

All around the inside of your HVAC unit, you’ll find seals that help to keep air and moisture out. Enclosing every seal is important. Keeping these seals in good condition is essential by checking for cracks or leaks and replacing them as needed.

7. Check the insulation

If you notice any spots where insulation has started to come away from the walls or ceilings, take action immediately! This can significantly damage your home’s systems, including your HVAC system.

8. Check the ductwork

Ensure all the ductwork is properly sealed and in good condition. If you see any leaks or other problems, take action right away! This can cause significant damage to your home’s systems, including your HVAC system. Connect to the technician or the professional for fitting back the ductwork in place.
