Sydney Sixers Team HistorySydney Sixers is one of the most famous professional team playing in the Australian T20 competition, Big Bash League. Sydney Sixers home ground is the Sydney Cricket ground. The first coach of Sydney Sixers was Trevor Bayliss, who led the team till 2015. After him, this responsibility was transferred to Greg Shipperd, who was also the coach of the famous IPL team, Delhi Daredevils which is a strong contender in IPL as well.

The first captain of Sydney Sixers was one of the greatest wicket keepers of Australian history “Brad Haddin”. After him, this role was taken over by Steve Smith and Moises Henriques as well. Currently, Moises Henriques has been handling the team as a captain in BBL 2019-2020.

TEAM

With the Magenta jersey, Sydney Sixer is one of the most elite put together team having 5 All-Rounders out of 21 players. With Moises Henriques as their captain, they have Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Dan Fallins and Hayden Kerr who are great All-Rounders. In batting order, they have Justin Avendano, Jack Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Josh Phillippe and Jordan Silk and for bowling, they prefer Jackson Bird, Tom Curran, Mickey Edwards, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Ben Manenti, Stephen O’Keefe, Lloyd Pope and Henry Thornton. Because of this elite team, the Sixers have managed to reach the BBL Finals thrice. Although they have claimed the title only once. They have lost in finals both the time to Perth Scorchers in the year 2014-15 and 2016-17

HISTORY

Sydney Sixers have hosted the BBL game on 16 December 2011 at one of the most historical Sydney Cricket Ground. This match was against Brisbane Heat. Eventually, they ended up winning the title in the very first season of Big Bash League. Because of this win, they were allowed to participate in Champions League T20 along with major teams from IPL as well. This was the only glorious season for the Sydney Sixers. They had two glorious chances of claiming the title again in the year of 2014-15 and 2016-17. Both of the matches were against one of their biggest rivals, Perth Scorchers. Sydney Sixers have lost every time they have faced Perth Scorchers in finals. Sydney Sixers faced them like warriors but unfortunately, Perth Scorchers always found a way to defeat them. In 2014-15 the result of the final was decided by super over which eventually fall in Perth Scorchers side and in 2016-17 Perth Scorchers landed the title without even breaking the sweat by winning with 9 wickets.

RIVALS

Sydney Thunder are the biggest rivals of Sydney Sixers.  Before their first loss to Sydney Thunder in the opening match of fifth season, Sydney Sixers have won all the matches against them in the first four seasons. In the current scenario, Sydney Sixers have won 11 matches out of 16 against Sydney Thunder. Their biggest win was with 9 wickets in Sydney Cricket Ground on 2 February 2019.

Another major rival of them is Perth Scorchers. This rivalry was initiated when Sydney Sixers were able to win the title in Perth in the first season. Since then Perth Scorchers have created a winning edge by winning more than 5 matches out of 7 against them, out of which 2 were BBL Finale.

As of now, Sydney Sixers is in the second position with 17 points. Fans are eagerly hoping for the team to be in the finals so let’s see what happens.
