What Should Hotel Owners Do to Minimize The Risk Of Covid-19

Minimize-risk-covid-19-hotelHotel managers and employees should take specific steps to improve guest and employee health and safety while we brace for the possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus. The hotel and tourism is the most affected industry by a coronavirus. But the hotel owner can survive by following these tips.

  1. Since sharing items such as money or credit cards with guests, wash all aspects of your hands regularly (at least 20 seconds if using an alcohol-based hand rub, and at least 40 seconds if using soap and water).
  2. Cover a cough or sneeze with your forearm or a tissue, then throw the tissue away in a closed bin.
  3. Maintain at least a one-meter separation from other workers and tourists.
  4. Stop shaking hands as far as possible.
  5. Wear a cloth mask if you can’t guarantee the distance. Often double-check local and national masking regulations.
  6. Droplet delivery can be stopped by standing behind plexiglass at reception and concierge desks.

What modifications should be made to the physical environment?

  1. Post signs around the hotel to teach good hand grooming (washing hands and using hand sanitizer), respiratory manners (covering your cough and sneeze), and to avoid scratching your face.
  2. Place alcohol-based hand sanitizer at both hotel entry points and central locations. If that isn’t an option, post signage pointing people to the closest sink where they can wash their hands with soap and water.
  3. Ensure the bathrooms have soap, disposable paper towels, and running water and that the toilets are in good working order.
  4. Place wastebaskets in the building and empty them daily. If at all practical, use plastic liners in wastebaskets. If at all practical, use a no-touch garbage bin.
  5. Doorknobs, handrails, bathroom fixtures (sink handles, toilets), countertops, workstations, desks, seats, and elevator buttons can all be cleaned regularly.

Additional Housekeeping Cleaning Instructions

  1. In addition to the cleaning instructions above, staff cleaning guestrooms should: Before entering and leaving a guestroom, wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren’t available, use a hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol.
  2. Any single-use objects offered by the hotel or left by the visitor should be thrown away.
  3. Tables, light switches, countertops, handles, chairs, remote controls, computers, showers, bathroom flush, handles, sink faucets; door handles, pens, and irons are all regularly touched surfaces.
  4. When dealing with dirty laundry or litter, use latex gloves.
  5. Dirty clothes need not be shaken.
  6. Hands should be washed as soon as possible when touching dirty laundry or garbage.
  7. When a visitor is sick and wants to be alone in their hotel room, toggle off all but the essential housekeeping facilities.
  8. Additional steps to take when cleaning a room after a sick visitor has checked out include:
  9. Close the door to the bed.
  10. Wait at least 24 hours before entering the room. If waiting 24 hours isn’t necessary, wait as long as you can.
  11. Increase air circulation by opening exterior doors and windows if necessary.
  12. As previously mentioned, thoroughly clean and disinfect the bed.
  13. The room should be opened for guest use after it has been adequately disinfected.

So there is some basic tip to follow. Coronavirus teaches us many lessons and we can keep running our business just doing few changes in the daily routine.
