Since stainless steel is such a good material for utility sinks, it is easy to expose them to an assortment of materials from various home improvement projects, including paint. However, paint protects iron, steel, and other metals from stains, rust, and scratches. But many people don’t want paint on their sink.
Paint can easily find its way to your sink, and if it dries, it can become a challenging task to get the paint off of it. It is not recommended to use abrasive materials or techniques as they can harm the finish of the sink.
However, solvents seem to be a viable option. Before you use any solvents, it is essential to test them in an inconspicuous area beforehand.

The solvent you use can depend on the area in which you are working, those you already have in your home, and the severity of the paint stain or spill.
You should never combine solvents. If the first one you try doesn’t pan out, make sure you rinse the sink first before trying another one.
Different types of solvents to use
Turpentine
Turpentine is a great choice for the removal of dried latex paint. It is less toxic than petroleum-based options. All you need to do for this is take a clean rag and put some turpentine in the corner of it. Use a rubbing motion on the paint stain to help dislodge and dissolve it. Rinse the area with water.
Thinners
Another alternative is lacquer thinner. This is a mixture of acetone and other solvents. You can dampen a sponge or rag with the solvent and rub it directly onto the dried paint to soften and remove it.
You can then rinse it and finish it off with some Bon Ami and water. This method can work on acrylic paint, oil-based paint, and other paint stains.
Baking Soda and Water
Mix baking soda and water as a natural compound. Its mixture creates a thick paste. Apply this paste directly to the dried paint stains in your sink. Gently scrub the area in a circular motion using a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse the sink thoroughly with water to remove any residue.
Using a Razor Blade
You can slide a razor blade under the edge of the dried paint and lift it away from the surface. This works well for large paint flecks. Wipe down the sink with a soft cloth and mild detergent to remove any remaining residue. But razor blades can give scratches and cuts to your sink.
Finishing the process
When you are finished with the paint removal, it is best to rinse the sink completely with water and pat it dry. This is also good for maintaining your sink, even without the paint spill in it.
If you want to make your sink shine again, put some olive oil on a cloth and buff the stainless steel lightly.
