Have you considered moving to Boca Raton? Great! Located approximately 45 miles north of Miami, there’s a lot to see and do in this city. However, before you pack your bags to Boca Raton, there are some things you should know about living here. In this post, we’ll discuss several of them.
We Recommend a Permit for the Beaches
Boca Raton is known for its public beaches, which you may believe are free. However, there’s a parking fee and a fee for visiting the beaches in general.
One way to save money is through an annual permit, which can cost a little more than $60. With that said, you need to be a resident to get it. The permit system is more complicated because you need to live directly in Boca Raton. West Boca does not count, and you can only get a permit for South Beach Park if you are a resident of Palm Beach County.
With that said, there are free beaches, such as Deerfield. Tourists, and even residents alike, will visit there to avoid paying. However, through paying, you may be able to get a beach that’s a little more secluded.
The Living Cost in Boca Raton is a Bit Higher Than Other Places
The luxury of Boca Raton comes at a price. While the cost of living in any area can vary from year to year, Boca Raton’s cost is usually around 28 percent more than the rest of the US and 26 more than Florida in general.
Like any town, there are cheaper neighborhoods, but they tend to be much smaller. Always be sure the area you’re moving to fits within your budget.
Don’t Let the Country Clubs Fool You
When you search for real estate in Boca Raton, you may notice that some areas look high-end and come at a price that seems too good to be true.
Chances are, you found a country club. Country clubs provide luxury living with many amenities, but they have many fees you may not find on a real estate website. For example, you may have to pay an entry fee or an annual fee, which can be tens of thousands of dollars.
Before checking it out, always make sure the real estate you’re interested in is not a country club.
You Live in an Area With One of the Top Malls
The Town Center at Boca Raton is not your ordinary mall. Instead, this mall is for luxury shopping, with a mixture of dining, cultural events, and entertainment thrown in. Considered one of the top town centers for shopping in the Florida area, you may be there frequently or avoid it due to all the tourism it receives.
Hurricanes Haven’t Happened for a While, But Always Be Prepared
When you’re moving to Florida, you always have to be mindful of the weather. While every area in Florida will be hot, with high humidity, some areas are more prone to hurricanes than others. Fortunately for Boca Raton, hurricanes aren’t as expected, with the last one affecting the area being Wilma back in 2005.
However, it’s always best to come prepared. Consider purchasing insurance, and have an escape or shelter plan ready should a hurricane strike. With today’s unpredictable climate, you can never be too safe.
