Autumn and the colder months are on the way and there are a few things that you can do to get your garage ready for the colder months. Here are some of our top tips!
Fix Any Draughts
If your garage doors are draughty and have gaps at the bottom, installing a threshold barrier could be the answer. We would always recommend calling in the professionals. Not only will they stop draughts and leaves coming in but they will keep out the water, keeping your garage clean and dry. This is especially important in the UK as the weather can get really bad there.
Clean Up & Declutter
It is almost time for the garden furniture to be put away and stored for the colder months. Giving your garage a good clean before you put it all back in is a good idea. Even giving the floor a little sweep will help to get rid of the dirt and cobwebs which can make a huge difference.
Whether you make it an all day job or you spend about an hour it is important to declutter before you put your summer things back in. This will help you to keep control and ensure that you don’t make a mess for the following Summer. Make three piles: charity shop, keep and throw away.
Once you have decluttered you can organise your items into zones. Create spaces for your pets, craft items, sport items and more.
Check Your Storage Space
If you use your garage storage space you will need easy access to all of your stuff. We would recommend installing free standing shelves if you have larger items such as bikes or water sports equipment such as paddle boards ect… This will help to keep the floor tidy too giving you space for your vehicles.
Whilst you are sorting out your storage take the time to bring the front items you need in the coming months. You will not need any outside furniture so leave this to the back but bring any decorations for Christmas to the forefront as you will need this soon.
Make Sure Your Lights Work
As we are going into the darker evenings there is nothing worse than entering your garage and realising you cannot see a thing. Ensure that you check that all your lights are working now so you don’t need to worry in the colder months.
Check Your Garage Door Is Working
If you open and close your garage door regularly then now is the time to check if it is working wrll and there are no problems. If there are issues now is the time to get them repaired, insulated or even sometimes it might be worth investing in a new one.
Whilst you are updating your garage door you may want to upgrade your garage floor too. Upgrading your floot to a sturdy, non-slip floor can make a huge difference. Not only will it look good but it will feel a lot nicer to walk on as well.
Using some of the tips above will help your garage door in good working condition throughout the winter. A lot of these steps will only require not a lot of time, following these steps annually will help your garage door live longer. If you are unable to perform this task on your own, or you simply do not have the time to do it, the professionals can help.
