We know all about how stressful event planning can be. If there was one skill that we all are excellent doing, it probably would be stressing out!
However, sometimes work can become so hectic and stressful that it disrupts the rest of your life. But it doesn’t have to. Here are a few tips to de-stress that we’ve used over the years to help us to calm down and relax.
1. Exercise!
Even if all you can do is take a short walk during your lunch break, take the time to step away from your desk and move your muscles. You’ll return with a greater sense of clarity.
By the way, try not to work through your lunch break – you have a lunch break for a reason!
2. Go To Bed
Staying up late working doesn’t make you more productive. It makes you grumpy and tired. Getting the recommended amount of sleep every night will help you to wake up feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
3. Enjoy A Laugh
There have been so many scholarly articles written about the power of laughter. So there’s little reason not to enjoy a great belly laugh! If you need inspiration, we’re pretty sure this YouTube video will put a smile on your face.
4. Look Out The Window
Looking at nature has a calming effect. The glaring computer screen? Not so much. Give your eyes a break and relax your mind by staring at some greenery.
5. Take A Time Out
Take a walk outside, listen to some music, read an interesting article online, grab some coffee, share a laugh with a coworker – just step away from your desk to take a break. It’ll give your mind a break.
Pro tip: Put some “Me” time into your day by scheduling an appointment and marking yourself as unavailable!
6. Clean and Organize
It’s crazy just how much more centered and relaxed you’ll feel after cleaning and organizing. Start small and organize your desk, vacuum your car or clean your bathroom. Enjoy that sigh of relief when you’re done!
7. Focus On One Thing At A Time
For example, instead of stretching yourself thin by trying to tackle too many projects all at once, focus on completing one task at a time and doing it well.
8. Be Grateful
Count your blessings – literally. Each day, take the time to list 10 things that you are grateful for by counting them on your fingers. It’s a great exercise to help you appreciate the little things in life and to put everything into perspective.
9. Pay Compliments
Pay compliments to those who are helping you accomplish your goals and let them know that you appreciate them. A little positivity can put a smile on someone’s face for the rest of the day.
10. Spend Time With Your Friends And Family
Trust us – it’ll help to remind you of the important things in life.
11. Write It Out (we said 10, but here‘s a bonus one!)
Sometimes putting feelings to words helps you to analyze your emotions. Not only is it a form of release, but seeing your problems on paper can help you to solve problems and/or gain perspective. Do something that you want to do and leave something that you don’t want to do. Take deep breathing, do meditation and yoga daily, listen music, and go for hotel massage and spa.
